Communication Technology Laboratory (CTL), Head
Dr. Tomaž Javornik is head of the Communication Technology Laboratory at the Department of Communication Systems and Scientific Advisor at the Jozef Stefan Institute and associate professor at the Jozef Stefan International Postgraduate School. He received B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1987, 1990, and 1993, respectively. Since 1987 he is employed at Jožef Stefan Institute. He worked part time also for INTEKOM, INTEKOM, Integrated technology and communications ltd., Ljubljana, Slovenia (2004 – 2009) and Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School (JSIPS), Ljubljana, Slovenia (2008 – ). In 1993 and 1994 he was at University of Westminster, London, UK, under project Tempus. His research interests are in wireless communication systems, especially modulation and coding and including turbo-codes and turbo-processing techniques, and MIMO, cooperative systems and physical layer network coding, wireless ad hoc and sensor networks, modelling the propagation of radio and optical signals, development of new methods/techniques/procedures for the efficient use of radio/optical spectrum, satellite and stratospheric communication systems, modelling and simulation of telecommunication systems and localization techniques in particular cooperative localization. He was management committee member of several COST projects, worked in several FP6, FP7, and H2020 projects. He also leaded numerous projects for Slovene industry and government bodies. He has co-authored many conference and journal articles, holds two international patents, and serves as TPC member or reviewer for several IEEE conferences and journals. He is also an associate professor in the Jozef Stefan International Postgraduate School, where he lectures several courses including Multiple Input and Multiple Output Wireless Systems, Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks, Advanced Concepts in Telecommunication Systems, Multiple-Antenna Systems and – Telecommunication Systems. He also supervised couple MSc. and PhD. students. He serves as TPC member or reviewer for several IEEE conferences and journals.
