Prof. dr. Mihael Mohorčič (DrSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, 2002) is a Principal Investigator and Head of the Department of Communication Systems at JSI and a professor in the area of telecommunications at the Jozef Stefan International Postgraduate School. He has been with the Department of Communication Systems at the Jozef Stefan Institute (JSI) since 1994 except for the period of 12 months in 1996/97, when he was Visiting Scientist at the University of Bradford, Bradford, UK. From 2004 to 2009 he was also part-time employed at the high-tech company INTEKOM, Integrated Technology and Communications, as head of research.
His research and working experience is mainly in mobile and wireless communications, recently focusing on radio and network resource management, protocol design and optimization, Internet of Things and “smart” applications of wireless sensor networks. He participated in more than 25 international projects (FP4–H2020 and COST Actions) considering terrestrial & satellite mobile communications, stratospheric telecommunication systems, wireless sensor networks, smart grids and experimental testbeds, and on the national level he participated in or led several applied projects for the industrial partners, as well as basic research projects in the areas of mobile and wireless communications and wireless sensor networks. Currently he is participating to H2020 projects Fed4FIRE+, RESILOC and BD4OPEM, and leading national basic research programme on communications networks and services.
He is author or co-author of more than 200 refereed journal and conference papers in the field of mobile and wireless communications, co-author of three books published by John Wiley & Sons, contributor to 9 book chapters (5 published by Springer) and co-author of one US patent. He regularly serves as a Technical Program Committee member to various international conferences and as a reviewer to several high ranked SCI journals and has been an editorial board member of three international journals and a guest editor to two journal special issues. Mihael Mohorčič is Senior Member of IEEE (VTS and ComSoc).
