A 3-D model with a resolution of 512 x 512 pixels in the X-Y plane and with a resolution of 1 mm (156 cross-sections) in Z direction was produced This model is intended for use in graphic presentations and anatomical studies. In order to implement the parallel FED simulation of heat transfer, or similar numeric applications, the resolution was scaled down to the 146 x 152 x 156 cubes with approximated edge length of 1 mm. In this way, the entire volume of the human heart was covered. Besides that, it was possible to perform the computer simulation with the mentioned resolution. If the computer power remains a problem, the 3-D model can be scaled down to 73 x 76 x 78 or even 36 x 38 x 39 cubes. In these cases details in the simulation process are lost, but the results are indicative enough to be useful for the surgeon.
Figure 10. 3-D model of coronary vessels in the resolution of 146 x 152 x 156 cubes with an approximated edge length of
1 mm. The left coronary artery that divides at the left anterior descending and circumflex artery can be seen.
