Obtained his PhD in fracture mechanics from the KU Leuven in Belgium. His research interests are mainly in the fields of applied mechanics, fracture mechanics and structural dynamics of structures with emphasis on the detection and assessment of damage, the investigation of long-term durability and failure mechanisms and the analysis of fractures using various numerical methods
